Compound microscope a light microscope that has more than one lens
Cell theory a widely accepted explanation of the relationship between cells and living things
Magnification the ability to make things look larger than they are
Convex lens a curved lens in which the center is thicker than the edges
Resolution the ability to clearly distinguish the individual parts of an object
Robert Hooke one of the first people to observe cells
Anton van Leeuwenhoek found small one celled organisms which he called animalcules
Matthias Schleiden German scientist who concluded that all plants are made of cells
Theodor Schwann German scientist that concluded all animals are made up of cells
Rudolf Virchow said all cells are formed from existing cells
Animalcules this is what Leeuwenhoek called the "little animals" he saw in the drop of pond water
