QuestionAnswer
What are some common minerals found in Florida? Floridians use limestone, sand and gravel, clay, and heavy minerals
What are the three questions that are used to determine if it is a mineral or not? Is it a solid? Is it nonliving? and is it formed in nature?
Which of these are considered to be a mineral? Water, oxygen, honey, ice, or teeth
Pick one of these, that you consider to be a mineral and why it is a mineral: water, teeth, oxygen, ice, or honey ice is the mineral and this is because it is a solid, it is nonliving, and it is formed in nature. If it turned into water then it wouldn't be considered a mineral.
How can you determine which mineral you're looking at if you were handed a mineral? There are different tests that you can follow. You could use color, luster, streak, or hardness. Color may not be the best test to use
What are the disadvantages of subsurface mining? There are many mine collapses, and you could possibly become very hurt. If there is a mine collpase you could easily get sick from the heat. You aren't sure that your life will be safe
What are the advantages of surface mining? You are closer to the surface so if a disaster occurs than it is much easier to escape, also there is less construction that occurs near the surface, plus it is a short term job
Can mined land be returned to its original state? Yes it can be, this process is called recalamation. This is when land is returned to its original state or even better.
What do you think would make people "move west" like the gold rush did? Answers will vary
