what does cleavage mean? cleavage is they way the mineral breaks.
what are some special properties of minerals? taste, magnetism, chemical reaction, optical properties, fluorescence, and radioactivity.
Many resources come from the components of the Earth, including rocks & minerals. Thinking about Florida, what mineral resources do we have & use here? sand, limestone, Phosphate, clay, peat
Why are these 4 items not considered to be minerals: water, oxygen, honey, & teeth? honey and water is a liquid, teeth can grow, and oxygen is a gas
Explain why scientists consider ice to be a mineral. because it is naturally form.
If you are given a sample of a mineral, how would you determine which mineral it is? find the color, luster, streak, cleavage, fracture, hardness, and density, special properties
Why is using streak more reliable in identifying a mineral than using color is? because minerals can have the same color or different colors.
Surface & Subsurface mining have positive and negative aspects. Give possible advantages & disadvantages of each type of mining . surface mining is cheaper but it is less likely to find better minerals. subsurface is more reliable to find minerals that surface, but it is more expensive
Can mined land be returned to a condition that is better than the original one? no because you would be disturbing habitats of animals.
