Biodiversity the sum total of all organisms in an area taking into account the diversity of species, their genes, their populations, and their communities
Species Diversity the number or variety of species in the world or in a particular place
Species Richness The number of different species in a given area
Species Evenness or Relative Abundance the proportion of a species to others in a given area
Genetic Diversity the differences in DNA composition among individuals within a species and populations
Latitudinal gradient species richness generally increases as the equator is approached (especially true for the Northern Hemisphere)
Extirpation the disappearance of a population from a certain area but not from the entire planet
Major causes of Biodiversity loss Invasive Species, Habitat alteration, Pollution, Over Harvesting
