air pressure, fronts, air mass
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Air Pressure | The weight of (the atmosphere's)air pressing down on an area |
| High Air Pressure | When the air inside is MORE dense than the surrounding air. Cool air has higher air pressure |
| Low Air Pressure | When the air inside is LESS dense than the surrounding air. Warm air has lower air pressure. |
| Air Mass | A large body of air with the same temperature and humidity throughout it |
| POLAR Air Mass | A large body of COLD air that forms over ARTIC areas |
| TROPICAL Air Mass | A large body of WARM air that forms over the TROPICS |
| MARITIME Air Mass | A large body of MOIST air that forms over OCEANS |
| CONTINENTAL Air Mass | A large body of DRY air that forms over land |
| Front | A boundry (where the two masses meet)between two air masses |
| WARM Front | When warm air moves into an area of cooler air; brings rain |
| COLD Front | When cold air moves into an area of warmer air; brings precipitaiton |
| STATIONARY Front | The boundary between two air masses that aren't moving |
| Relative Humidity | The ratio of the actual amount of water vapor in the air to the total amount of water vapor that the air could contain at that temperature |
