QuestionAnswer
Organism A living or once living thing.
Charactoristic A quality or feature of a person or thing.
What two things do charactoristics do? They make each living thing different from each other and they define your hair color, shape, height, and personality.
Cell The smallest unit that can carry out lifes' functions'.
Living things are all made up of one or more... cells
All living things respond to their... environment.
Environment Everything that surrounds an organism.
Stimulus Anything that causesan organism to respond.
Response A reaction of an organsism to a stimulus.
Homeostasis The maintenance of a stabe internal environment.
Adaptation Any charactoristic of a living thing to make it better able to survive in its environment. (Two examples: Forest: Green animal. Desert: Lion.) Occurs over a long period of time.
Reproduce The ability of an organism to make more of its kind.
Sexual Reproduction Takes two 'parents' (giggle giggle) And example would be flowers to make a seed. Or two cats to make kittens.
Asexual Reproduction When only one organism is needed to produce another. (The organism will copy itself, and then split in half. New life may grow and bud froma parent like cutting the eye from a potato.)
DNA The chemical that controls the structure and function of cells.
Heredity Is the passing of traits. (DNA)
Get and use ___ and ___ Energy. Food.
Energy Directly Some organisms can create their own food, while humans must buy their food. (Plants make their own food through photosynthesis.)
Energy Indirectly You must eat other organisms that eat plants.
All living ____ and develop grow. All organsisms must grow and develop during its life span.
Life span The amount fo time it takes a certain organism to die.
The Necessities of life: Water. Air. Ap lace to live. Food.
Producer. An organism that makes their own food. (Plants. Photosynthesis.)
Consumer. An organism that does NOT make its own food (humans. gracery store.)
decomposer. Get energy by breaking down the nutrients in a dead and decaying organism/material. (BEETLES!)
Biotic Factors Living parts of the environment.
Abiotic Factors Non-living parts of the environment.
