Adenosine

QuestionAnswer
Type: Endogenous purine nucleoside
Presentation: 6mg in 2ml
Use: Rx of SVT Not for AF or AFl, however decrease in AV node conduction may unmask atrial activity
Action: Causes transient inhibition of conduction in the heart, esp AV node
Contraindictaions: - 2 or 3 degree HB - KSAR
Precautions: - Asthma - Pregnancy: use only if very poorly perfused - Antagonised by theophyline Potentiated by persantin, carbium, tegretol
Dose: Symptomatic adults: 6mg rapid bolus, 2nd 12mg Paed: 0.05mg/kg then 0.1mg/kg
Special note: 12 lead, valsalva x 2, Tx due to recurrence - midaz if previous fear, 1-1.5mg
