zoloft/sertaline treat depression and has shown usefulness for OCD and panic disorder. cause insomnia, gi distress- give with food or milk
effexor/venlafaxine treat depression, ADD, ADDH, pain disorder. SE somnolence (prolonged drowsiness), nervousness insomnia, anxiety, blurred vision. Should not be started within 14 days of d/c MAOI--may cause a syndrome similar to neuroleptic malignant syndrome.
luvox/fluvoxamine maleate treat depression, panic disorders, and eating disorders. SE: somnolence, headache, agitation, dizziness dry mouth sex dysfunction.
serzone/nefazadone Treat major depression SE: headache, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation and nausea.
wellburtin/bupropion treat depression and ADDH. SE: palpitations, dry mouth nausea, vomiting insomnia, dizziness.
desyrel/trazodone treat depression SE: drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth.
celexa/citalopram treat major depression SE drowsiness, dizziness nausea diarrhea urinary frequency
remeron/mirtazapine treat depression, dysthymic disorder, agitated depression.
lexapro/escitalopram oxalate New fall 2002. Developed from celexa but has fewer side effects and works in 1-2 weeks
cymbalta/duloxetine hcl New 2004. treat major depressive disorder and diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain. Works in 1-2 weeks. Should not be given to patients with uncontrolled narrow glaucoma. highy bound to plasmaprotein may cause adverse effects
paxil/paroxetine treat depression, panic disorders, eating disorders, and OCD. SE: mild and tolerated.
