Unit Vocabulary Review

What are controls? Factors not allowed to change during an experiment
What is independent variable? The variable changed by the experimenter on purpose
What is dependent variable? Variable that is being measured; what responds to changes made by the experimenter
What is stimulus? Something that triggers or causes a response
What is a response? A reaction to a specific stimulus
What is homeostasis? The process of keeping things balanced or normal
What is respiration? To breathe
What does interact mean? To work together
What does excrete mean? To push or send out
What does contract or contraction mean? To squeeze or tighten up
What does secrete mean? To release
What does exert or exerted mean? To apply pressure
What is a function? What the organ or system does (its activity)
What is a structure? How something is made or put together
