energy flow in ecosystems

QuestionAnswer
producer An organism that can make its own food.
consumer An organism that obtains it's energy by eating other organisms.
herbivore consumers that eat only plants.
carnivore consumers that eat only animals.
omnivore Consumers that eat only plants and animals.
scavenger A carnivore that eats plants and animals.
decomposer organisms that break down wastes, dead organisms, and turn the raw materials around to make the ecosystem.
food chain A series of events in which one organism eats another organism to get its energy.
food web consists of the many overlapping food chains in an ecosystem.
energy pyramid A diagram that shows the amount of energy each feeding level has.
