| phenomena | observable events in the natural world |
| observation | facts, evidence, or info you can gather with your senses (i.e. see, hear, taste, touch, smell, measure, thermometer, etc.) |
| inference | what you think happened based off facts or observations |
| input | the material or energy that goes into a system |
| process | changing the input to achieve a goal (usually the output) |
| output | info, material, or energy that leaves a system |
| system | a set of connected items working together to form a whole |
| sub system | sub systems are smaller systems within a larger system that work together to help the larger system function as a whole |
| CER | claim evidence reasoning |
| data | the info and observations you collect during during the investigation (dates, times, measurements, numbers, weights, color, distance, speed, etc.) |
