What causes the variation of the Earth's energy budget? The earth is a sphere, it rotates around the sun the earth rotates around and axis connecting the North and South poles, the Earth is so far away from the sun that the sun's rays of light are approximately parallel.
What are the primary causes of the seasons? The motion of the Earth around the sun and the tilt of the Earth's axis of rotation.
What is Perihelion? The minimum distance between the Earth and Sun.
When is Perihelion? January 5th
What is aphelion? The maximum distance between the Earth and Sun.
When is Aphelion? July 5th
What is the present angle of Earth's tilt? 23.5 degrees
The distribution of solar energy absorbed by the Earth's surface is controlled by what? The Earth's Movements, distribution of physical properties of the surface, and cloudiness.
What is Insolation? The Total Solar Energy
What effect the radiation absorption properties of the atmosphere? The clouds, moisture, and dust in the air
Where are the most pronounced differences in surface thermal properties? Land and Sea
Which has a higher temperature change: water or land? Water due to increased heat penetration
