Air Circulation

What is conduction? Transfer of heat through touch
What is radiation? Transfer of heat through invisible waves
What is convection? Transfer of heat by movement of liquid or gas
What is the coriolis effect? The way Earth's rotation makes moving air and water curve instead of going straight
What is density? How much "stuff" (mass) is packed into a certain amount of space
What is fluid? A substance that can flow, like a liquid (water) or a gas (air)
What are global winds? Large patterns of wind that blow around Earth in consistent directions
Which type of heat transfer is this? Touching a hot pan and feeling the heat. Conduction
Which type of heat transfer is this? A metal spoon getting hot while sitting in hot soup. Conduction
Which type of heat transfer is this? Holding a warm mug and feeling heat in your hands. Conduction
Which type of heat transfer is this? The Sun warming your skin Radiation
Which type of heat transfer is this? Feeling heat from a campfire while standing nearby. Radiation
Which type of heat transfer is this? Feeling warmth from a heat lamp. Radiation
Which type of heat transfer is this? Warm air rising and cool air sinking in a room? Convection
Which type of heat transfer is this? Water circulating as it heats up in a pot. Convection
Which type of heat transfer is this? The material in a lava lamp rising and falling. Convection
What happens to air when it is heated? It becomes less dense and rises
What happens to air when it is cooled? It becomes more dense and sinks
What is air pressure? The force caused by the weight of air
How does temperature affect density? Warmer air is less dense, cooler air is more dense
