TermDefinition
Atomization The process of breaking a substance, liquid, or society down into tiny, seperate piece or individual units
Creosscutting Cleavages Occurs when social, economic, or cultural divisioons in a society overlap and pull people in different directions, meaning that lines of political disaggreement do not line with one another
Legitimacy The quality of being lawful, valid, or accepted as right and proper
Panopticon A design where a single gurad in a central tower can watch all the inmates but the inmates cannot see that they are being watched
Peer policing memebers of a group, community or organization, monitor, regulate, and enforce behavioral norms and rules among one another
Preference falsification That act of publicly expressing an opinion, belif or desire that goes against what you actually or want in private
Pubic goods A product or service that anyone can use without reducing its availibity to others and from which noone can be effectively excluded
Revolution A sudeen,radical change in a system
Safty valve refers to an outlet or release for pent-up stress, emotion, energy
Self-policing where a group moniters its own behavior to ensure people follow the rules ( Ex. HOA/neighborhood watch )
Totalitarian Describes a centralized political system or government that strives for total control over all public and private aspects of citixens lives
