| Architectural programming | Research and decision‐making process, initiated by an owner, usually with help of an architect that identifies the basic needs of the client and parameters of the project to be designed and built by a construction professional |
| Constructability reviews | Process in which contractors and construction managers work with designers to ensure that the details of the design can be built in efficiently and cost‐effectively |
| Construction management | Planning, scheduling, evaluation, and controlling of construction tasks and activities to accomplish specific objectives outlined in the contract |
| Integrated form of agreement | Aka IFOA; multiparty agreement that includes the owner, designer, and constructor as signatories to the same construction contract |
| Integrated project delivery | Any project delivery method that contractually engages the contractor at the beginning of the design process |
| Multiple prime | Owner bypasses the use of a general contractor and enters into multiple separate contracts such as concrete, framing, mechanical, and electrical work. Each specialty contractor involved becomes a prime contractor on the project |
| Progressive design–build | Allows the owner and the design‐builder to engage even earlier than would happen under a typical design–build contract |
| Scope of work | Parameters defining the overall extent of work to be included in a construction contract |
| Value engineering | Approaches are considered regarding design, product selection, or building to provide the most efficient, cost‐effective solution |
