Origin of the Universe

QuestionAnswer
Religion and mythology have for long time proposed that theworld came into existence out of nothing. Generally, all stories of creation emphasize the power of a Creator, Deity or God. Divine Creation Theory
the Solar System formed: Hydrogen and other gases swirled around and condensed into our sun and its planets. The Nebular Theory
the universe began about 15 billion years ago, in a huge explosion. This theory proposes that the universe started as a big ball of pure energy , matter, forces of nature and space were all wrapped up. Big Bang Theory
Big Bang Theory was first developed in 1927 by: Georges Lemaitre(1924-1966)
Big Bang Theory was coined and revised by: George Gamow(1904-1968)
Alternatively, the galaxies may come together, until finally they will collide and explode. This event is called the: Big Crunch Theory
believed that the galaxies of the universe are moving farther apart. This means that the universe is getting continually bigger or getting biggerforever. Edwin Hubble
Proposed by Hermann Bondi, Thomas Gold, and Fred Hoyle in 1928, this suggests that the universe is infinite in time with the same condition before and now, and it has a constant mean density. Steady State
defined as the totality of everything that exists, including all physical matter and energy, ranging from the smallest atom to the biggest galaxy- the planets, stars, everything. universe
Made of eight planets: Mercury, Venus, our Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune and Uranus. Revolve around the Sun SOLAR SYSTEM
Giant balls of hot gas, mostly hydrogen, with some helium and small amounts of other elements. STARS
-The brilliant point of light is the explosion of a star that has reached the end of its life. Supernovae!
believed to be a supermassive black hole surrounded by an accretion disk. Seen in the center of some galaxies QUASAR?
consist of stars, planets, and vast clouds of gas and dust GALAXIES!
is an interstellar cloud of dust, hydrogen, helium and other ionized gases. NEBULA!!
because they emit their own light. How do they emit their own light? They glow red or pink as they expel extra energy which they get from nearby stars. Emission Nebulae,
This is because rather than emitting their own light, they are reflecting the light of the stars around them. They are blue because they reflect the light of a star. Reflection nebula
are interstellar clouds that contain a very high concentration of dust. This allows them to scatter and absorb all incident optical light, making them completely opaque at visible wavelengths. Dark nebulae
It is an observatory that carried a telescope and traveled in space in April 1990. Hubble Space telescope
It is a device for collecting radio signals from objects which are too far away to be seen by optical telescopes. Radio telescope
Is a kind of radio telescope that allows radio astronomers to pick up very weak signals from space. Radio interferometer
Is used to get information about stars, galaxies and nebulae. Used for breaking down light into a spectrum Spectroscope
Was launched into space in 1981, It is a space truck taking astronauts cargo and equipments into space and returning facilities and equipment to Earth NASA Space Shuttle
It is a shape like an aircraft and carries the crew to and from space. Space Shuttle Orbiter
has been used immense distances into space, to reveal galaxies and other luminous objects. Hale Telescope
