What is a mixture? A combination of two or more different substances in which they keep their identities or properties.
What is a solution? A mixture that is composed of several properties, but the mix evenly to create a balance.
In a solution, what is an example of a universal solution? Water
In a solution, what is an example of two basic solvents? Salt & Sugar
When a salt or sugar solution is evaporated, what is the outcome of the solution? The water evaporates into gas, and the salt or sugar is left behind as a result of evaporation.
What is a change in some properties of matter without forming a different kind of matter? Physical Changes
What is a change of one or more types of matter into other types of matter with different properties? Chemical Changes
What are physical changes to an object? Changes in matter without creating a change in the matter itself.
What are chemical changes to an object? It is when one or more kinds of matter change into other types of matter.
What is matter? Anything that takes up space in a solid, liquid, or gas.
The amount of space an object takes is it's what? Volume
What math formula is used to find a shapes volume? Width x Length x Height
In the science lab, everything is measured by what following ways in mathetics? The Metric System
Meters measure what in the Metric System? Length
Liters measure what in the Metric System? Volume
Grams measure what in the Metric System? Mass
Gravity from the Earth is different from the moon’s gravity, WHY? The Earth is bigger than the Moon and exerts more gravity because of its size.
The amount of matter is based on what three forms that determines its mass? Solid, Liquid, or Gas
What is Mass? The amount of matter in a solid, liquid, or gas.
What is Volume? The amount of space an object takes up.
What is Temperature? A measure of how fast the particles in an object are moving.
What are the three particles that an atom is created of? Protons, Electrons, & Neutrons
Atoms that connect to other atoms are trying to establish what in an element? A balance of protons and electrons
Elements can range from 3 types of matters, what are they? Metals, Nonmetal and Semimetals
Why can hot or cold temperatures not be considered matter? They have no volume, space, or weight
What is a compound? Molecules that have two or more elements that are together
What is the different in (A) mass and (B) weight? Mass does not change its amount & weight can change due to the gravity around it
