Brady- Lifting/Moving Points Key Terms

TermDefinition
Body Mechanics Proper lifting techniques (lift with legs, keep back straight, avoid twisting) used to prevent EMT injuries.
Team Communication Clear commands and coordinated lifting (e.g., "Lift on 3") help prevent patient and provider injuries.
Emergency Move Rapid movement of a patient when there is immediate danger, such as an unsafe scene or life-threatening condition.
Rapid Extrication Emergency technique used to quickly remove a patient from a vehicle when immediate treatment or scene safety requires it.
Wheeled Ambulance Stretcher The primary device used to transport patients safely to and from the ambulance.
Stair Chair Device used to move stable patients up or down stairs while in a seated position.
Scoop Stretcher Splits into two halves to lift patients with minimal movement, especially useful for suspected hip or pelvic injuries.
Backboard (Spinal Motion Restriction Device) Used to assist with patient movement and spinal motion restriction when indicated.
Bariatric Patient A patient whose size or weight requires specialized equipment, additional personnel, and careful planning during movement.
Decontamination Cleaning and disinfecting patient-handling equipment after every use to prevent the spread of infection.
