cell membrane A cell structure that controls which substances can enter or leave the cell
cell wall A rigid outer layer that surrounds a PLANT CELL
chloroplasts An organelle found in plant and algae cells where photosynthesis occurs
mitochondria Powerhouse of the cell, converts energy from food into useable energy for the cell
nucleus Control center of the cell, also contains the DNA (genetic material)
organelle Small membrane-bound structures in the cytoplasm that have specific jobs for the cell's survival
cytoplasm A jellylike fluid inside the cell that holds the organelles
ribosomes Makes proteins for the cell
vacuole Cell organelle that stores materials such as water, salts, proteins, and carbohydrates
prokaryote A unicellular organism that lacks a nucleus and membrane bound organelles
eukaryote A cell that contains a nucleus and membrane bound organelles
