emperical evidence Information that comes from observations or experiments
theory A well tested explanation of how or why something in nature works, supported by lots of evidence
law A statement that describes what always happens in nature under certain conditions
experiment A test that is done to see if a hypothesis is true or false
hyopotesis An educated guess or prediction that can be tested
dependent variable the thing that is measured or observed in an experiment
observations information you get by using your senses or tools to notice something
independent variable the one thing that the scientists changes on purpose in an experiment
data The facts, numbers, or information collected during an experiment or observation
model a representation that helps explain something in science
engineering using science and math to design and build things that solve problems
technology tools, machines, or systems that people create to make life easier or solve problems
prototype the first working model of a new product invention that is tested and improved
trade -off When you have to give up one thing to gain something else
risk benefit analysis looking at the positive dangers or the posible good things of decision or product
life cycle analysis Studying the inviromental impact of a product from the time it is made until it is thrown away
pugh chart A table used to compare different design ideas and decide which one is the best
