| Chemical Reaction | A process in which substances interact and atoms rearrange to form new substances. |
| Reactant | A starting substance in a chemical reaction. |
| Product | A new substance formed during a chemical reaction. |
| Evidence | Observations or measurements used to support an explanation. |
| Conservation of Matter | The principle that matter is not created or destroyed during a physical or chemical change. |
| Mixture | Two or more substances physically combined while each keeps its own properties. |
| Solution | A mixture in which one substance is evenly distributed throughout another. |
| Solute | The substance that dissolves in a solution. |
| Solvent | The substance that does the dissolving. |
| Aqueous Solution | A solution in which water is the solvent. |
| Solubility | The amount of a substance that can dissolve in a certain amount of solvent under specific conditions. |
| Concentration | How much solute is present in a certain amount of solution. |
| Saturated Solution | A solution containing as much dissolved solute as it can hold under the given conditions. |
| Dissolution Rate | How quickly a solute dissolves in a solvent. |
| Agitation | Stirring or shaking that can increase how quickly a solute dissolves. |
| Surface Area | The amount of a substance exposed to its surroundings; greater surface area can increase dissolution rate. |
