Chapter 0.1 Nature of Science 7th Grade

science the knowledge gained from using observations and experiments to describe and explain the natural world
science is NOT based on belief, moral judgement, or personal opinions
Earth/Space science the study of Earth, including its structure, land, oceans, weather, and objects beyond its atmosphere
Life science the study of living things, including plants, animals, and microscopic life forms
Physical science a field of science that studies nonliving things such as matter, energy, physics, and chemistry
scientist someone who uses the processes of science to find answers about how and why things work in the natural world
limitations restrictions or things that are not possible or allowed
judgement an evaluation or assessment of something
ethics the principles of right and wrong that guide an individual in making decisions
observation using your senses carefully in order to gain information about
curiosity a strong desire to know or learn something
`creativity the ability to think about a problem or idea in new and unusual ways to come up with solutions
logic the process of reasoning and making conclusions supported by evidence
skepticism asking questions and looking for information to prove something is true before you believe it
objectivity judging facts without influence from personal feelings or beliefs
