T2-Force & Motion
T2 - Force and Motion
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Force | A force is a push or a pull and is required to do work. Forces can affect motion. |
| Push | A push is holding an object, or moving an object away from you. (For example, running or sitting). |
| Pull | A pull is applying force on an object toward you. (For example, opening a door, lifting, or tug-o-war). |
| Types of motion... | -in a straight line -circular -up and down -zig zag -side to side |
| Friction | A force that works against motion. Occurs between two objects that are touching and tries to stop motion. |
| Gravity | Gravity is a force of attraction between objects with mass. For example, objects falling. |
| Magnetism | Magnetism is a non-contact force that can cause some objects to be attracted to a magnet. Only certain materials, like steel, iron, nickel, and cobalt, are affected by magnets. |
| Potential energy | stored energy |
| Kinetic energy | moving energy |
| Applied force | Occurs when something directly pushes or pulls on an object. |
| Normal force | Surfaces support objects resting upon them by pushing upward. |
