Mitosis
Stack to memorize Mitosis
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| What is Mitosis | Cell division that divides making two genetically identical daughter cells |
| What is the purpose of Mitosis? | To heal wounds, damaged cells are replaced by newly formed cells |
| Where does Mitosis occur? | Various types of cells, like skin, blood, and structural cells |
| What must happen before mitosis happens? (What Stage) | Interphase |
| What is the G1- phase? | Initial stage of growth of the cell cycle, organelles increase in size, RNA and Proteins are produced, and centrioles duplicate. |
| What is the S-Phase? | When genetic material in the nucleus is copied to make two similar sets of chromosomes, centrioles complete duplication. |
| What is the G2-Phase? | Resting stage, RNA and proteins continue. Cell stores energy ATP for mitosis. |
| What is prophase of mitosis? | Thread condensing chromosomes. Turning into sister chromatids, spindle fibers form and nuclear envelop breaks, chromosomes then go to the middle of the cell. |
| What is metaphase of mitosis? | Chromosomes are shorter and thicker; spindle fibers attach that are at opposite poles, they then align to the middle of the cell. |
| What is anaphase of mitosis? | Splitting each paired chromosomes into chromatids, that are now daughter chromosomes, then, they are pulled towards opposite. end of the cell from the fibers. |
| What is Telophase of mitosis? | Nuclear envelope is recreated, each chromosome group form new nuclei. |
| What is cytokinesis? | When the cytoplasm is separated into two independent daughter cells |
