| 1 | Scene safety. * Say “The scene is safe.” |
| 2 | Ensure person is on their back on a firm flat surface. |
| 3 | Check for responsiveness. * Tap shoulder and shout “Hey sir, hey sir, are you okay? Hey sir, hey sir, are you okay?” * If no response, assume cardiac arrest. |
| 4 | Call for help immediately. * Shout “Help! Please call 911, activate EMS, and send someone to get an AED!” * Check pulse and listen for breathing for 8 seconds. * Say “Negative pulse, negative breathing.” |
| 5 | Correct body position. * Kneel beside the person at chest level. * Place shoulders directly over your hands. * Keep elbow locked straight. |
| 6 | Hand placement. * Place the heel of one hand in the center of the chest (lower half of sternum). * Place the other hand on top. * Interlock fingers and keep them off the chest. |
| 7 | Compression quality. * Push hard and fast. * Depth: at least 2 inches in adults. * Rate: 100-120 compressions per minute. * Allow full chest recoil after each compression. |
