EOC Review Unit 2
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Plant Cell | Have a large central vacuole, chloroplasts, and a cell wall. |
| Animal Cells | Have many small vacuoles, lysosomes, and centrioles |
| Prokaryotic Cells | Cells that lack a nucleus and membrane-bound organelles. More simple in design. |
| Eukaryotic Cells | Cells with a nucleus and membrane-bound organelles. More complex in design |
| Nucleus | The dense control center of a eukaryotic cell, holding all DNA inside. |
| Mitochondria | The powerhouse of the cell. Produces ATP in response to receiving reactants. |
| Chloroplast | The site where photosynthesis takes place, producing ATP. Only present in eukaryotic Plant Cells. |
| Vacuole | Stores food and water in Cells. Differs between animal and plant cells. |
| Cell Wall | Provides structural support and prevents the cell from bursting. Only found in plant cells. |
| Cell Membrane | Separates the internal environment from the external environment, determining what enters/exits the cell. |
| Ribosomes | Site of protein synthesis. |
| Cytoplasm | The liquid pool in Cells. |
