EOC Review Unit 2

TermDefinition
Plant Cell Have a large central vacuole, chloroplasts, and a cell wall.
Animal Cells Have many small vacuoles, lysosomes, and centrioles
Prokaryotic Cells Cells that lack a nucleus and membrane-bound organelles. More simple in design.
Eukaryotic Cells Cells with a nucleus and membrane-bound organelles. More complex in design
Nucleus The dense control center of a eukaryotic cell, holding all DNA inside.
Mitochondria The powerhouse of the cell. Produces ATP in response to receiving reactants.
Chloroplast The site where photosynthesis takes place, producing ATP. Only present in eukaryotic Plant Cells.
Vacuole Stores food and water in Cells. Differs between animal and plant cells.
Cell Wall Provides structural support and prevents the cell from bursting. Only found in plant cells.
Cell Membrane Separates the internal environment from the external environment, determining what enters/exits the cell.
Ribosomes Site of protein synthesis.
Cytoplasm The liquid pool in Cells.
