What is the classification for Dobutamine? Synthetic sympathetic agonist.
What is the pharmacodynamics of Dobutamine? - Alpha and Beta adrenergic agonist - Inotropic properties more pronounced than chronotropic properties.
What are the indications of Dobutamine? Cardiac pump problems (CHF) with hypotension.
What are the contraindications of Dobutamine? - Should NOT be used in hypovolemia until fluid replacement has been administered. - Do NOT mix with Sodium Bicarb.
What are the adverse side effects of Dobutamine? - Hypertension - Palpitations - Headache - Dizziness - Can worsen cardiac ischemia - Extravasation can cause tissue necrosis
What is the adult dose for Dobutamine? - 2 - 20 mcg/kg/min - Titrate so heart rate does not increase by more than 10% of baseline.
What is the pediatric dose of Dobutamine? - 2 - 20 mcg/kg/min - Titrate so heart rate does not increase by more than 10% of baseline.
