What is the classification of Diltiazem? Class IV Calcium Channel Blocker.
What are the pharmacodynamics of Diltiazem? Slaws action potential of autorhythmic cells in the heart by blocking calcium channels.
What are the indications for the use of Diltiazem? - First line medication for A-Fib and A-Flutter with RVR (Usually ventricular rates above 150 bpm) - Second line medication for SVT that is refractory to adenosine.
What are the contraindications of Diltiazem? - Hypotension (Below 90 mmHg) - CHF/ Cardiogenic Shock - Wide Complex Tachycardia - WPW - Hypersensitivity to medication
What are the adverse effects of Diltiazem? - Hypotension - Severe CHF may result if used along with Beta Blockers - Nausea/ Vomiting /Diarrhea - Dizziness - Headache
What is the dose for Diltiazem? - First dose: 0.25 mg/kg with a max dose of 20 mg - Second dose: 0.35 mg/kg with to a max dose of 25 mg
