AC Ancient China

Ancient China

Shang dynasty the first Chinese dynasty with both documentary and archaeological evidence. The Shang were renowned for their advanced bronze casting.Social Structure: A proto-feudal system existed with royalty, a noble class, and agricultural laborers.
Zhou dynasty The Zhou dynasty had political and philosophical concepts: Mandate of Heaven: overthrew Shang with ts. Lots of new schools, major philosophers like Confucius and Laozi Technological Advancements: iron, crossbows,
Qin Dynasty The Qin dynasty unified China for the first time, establishing a centralized empire Qin unified China, creating a centralized empire with standardized systems of money, weights, measures, and writing. Great Wall, Cultural Suppression (legalism)
Han Dynasty The Han dynasty consolidated the achievements of the Qin and is considered a golden age. Bureaucracy: A bureaucracy based on merit with promotion based on classical learning. Achievements, paper, water clocks, sundials, and the seismograph.
Confucianism Confucianism, founded by Confucius, wants ethical conduct, social harmony, and self-cultivation. motivated by goodness rather than personal profit. Confucianism stresses the importance of social institutions like family and community

Daoism Daoism, attributed to Laozi, focuses on living in harmony with the Dao This involves embracing naturalness, spontaneity, and simplicity Daoism contrasts the naturalness of the Dao with the artificiality of human society and culture
Legalism Legalism emerged during a period of social upheaval. Legalists believed that human beings are selfish and that social harmony a rigid system of laws, punishments, and rewards. The goal is to increase the power of the ruler and by regulating human activty
