cellbio exam 3 4

aerobic respiration

TermDefinition
aerobic respiration C6H12O6+ 6O2 = 6CO2 + 6H2O + ATP
1. glycolysis break down glucose and modify it, makes 2 ATP 2 NADH 2 pyruvates
glyc step 1 stick phosphorus to glucose t make glucose 6 phosphate
glyc step 2 use isomerase to make fructose 6 phosphate
glyc step 3 add another phosphate to make fructose 1 6 biphosphate
glyc step 4 break it to release hydrogens which are picked up hy NADH+
glyc step 5 whats left is 2 pyruvates which are 2 half glucoses
1.5 mictochondria make pyruvate smaller to get in mitochondria
mito step 1 coenzyme A takes C+H off pyruvate, fits in mito now
mito step 2 pyruvate turns into acetal coA attached to coenzyme A
2. krebs cycle take electrons off carbons, makes 4 ATP
kreb step 1 acetal coA + oxaloacetate = citric acid
kreb step 2 citric acid rearranged into isocitrate
kreb step 3 isocitrate breaks down into alpha ketoglutamate, CO2+H taken off
kreb step 4 alpha ketoglutamate breaks down into succinyl CoA
kreb step 5 succinyl CoA turned into succinate, which loses H's and turns into fumarate
kreb step 6 fumarate is hydrolized and breaks down into malate+H
3. electron transport chain bring electrons to mito, use them to charge ATP
etc step 1 NADH/FAHD2 drop off electrons attached to H
etc step 2 electrons move thru a chain of proteins, their energy is used to pump H across membrane to make conc difference
etc step 3 ATP synthase pump lets H flow thru all at once like opening a dam, slaps ADP+phosphorus together to make ATP
etc step 4 oxygens catch hydrogens to make water, expelled

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
