calvin cycle
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| calvin cycle | light independent, turns CO2 into sugars |
| rubisco | fixes CO2 to make it usable |
| step 1 | rubisco grabs CO2 and adds it to an organic molecule to make 3 phosphoglycerate |
| step 2 | NADH+ brings hydrogens to phosphoglycerates to turn them into G3P |
| step 3 | G3P turned into glucose (which leaves cycle) |
| step 4 | rubisco uses RuBP to restart cycle |
| C3 plants | rubisco grabs O2 40% of time, wastes energy |
| C4 plants | pep enzyme brings CO2 to rubisco so it can't mess up. hot dry conditions |
| bundle sheath | layer between mesophyll and vein |
| crans anatomy | mesophyll on top of bundle sheath on top of vein, sugar drips down into vein |
| CAM plants | catch light during day and do calvin cycle at night. inefficient but not wasteful. cacti/succulents |
