TermDefinition
Metal A type of element that is usually shiny, strong, and a good conductor of heat and electricity.
Proton A positively charged particle found in the nucleus (centre) of an atom.
Lustre How shiny or reflective a material is.
Mixture A combination of two or more substances that are not chemically joined and can be separated.
Metalloid An element that has properties of both metals and non-metals.
Element A pure substance made of only one type of atom.
Atom The smallest particle of an element that still has the properties of that element.
Non metal A type of element that is usually dull, not very strong, and a poor conductor of heat and electricity.
Conductivity The ability of a material to allow heat or electricity to pass through it.
Electron A negatively charged particle that moves around the nucleus of an atom.
Neutron A particle with no charge found in the nucleus of an atom.
Ductility The ability of a material to be stretched into a wire.
Malleability The ability of a material to be hammered or shaped into thin sheets.
Compound A substance made when two or more different elements are chemically combined.
