| Metal | A type of element that is usually shiny, strong, and a good conductor of heat and electricity. |
| Proton | A positively charged particle found in the nucleus (centre) of an atom. |
| Lustre | How shiny or reflective a material is. |
| Mixture | A combination of two or more substances that are not chemically joined and can be separated. |
| Metalloid | An element that has properties of both metals and non-metals. |
| Element | A pure substance made of only one type of atom. |
| Atom | The smallest particle of an element that still has the properties of that element. |
| Non metal | A type of element that is usually dull, not very strong, and a poor conductor of heat and electricity. |
| Conductivity | The ability of a material to allow heat or electricity to pass through it. |
| Electron | A negatively charged particle that moves around the nucleus of an atom. |
| Neutron | A particle with no charge found in the nucleus of an atom. |
| Ductility | The ability of a material to be stretched into a wire. |
| Malleability | The ability of a material to be hammered or shaped into thin sheets. |
| Compound | A substance made when two or more different elements are chemically combined. |
