photosynthesis process of plants using carbon dioxide to make glucose and giving oxygen as a waste product
respiration the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere by plants and animals
decomposition the breakdown of dead plants and animals, returning carbon into the soil and atmosphere
combustion the burning of fossil fuels that release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere
sedimentation the process where carbon settles to the bottom of oceans and forms rocks over time
diffusion the movement of carbon between the ocean and atmosphere
