| Term | Definition |

| conservation | Careful use and protection of natural resources |
| nonrenewable | Materials that cannot be replaced quickly enough to keep from running out |
| renewable | Materials that are continually being replaced and are not likely to run out |
| weathering | Wearing down or breaking apart of rocks into sediment |
| erosion | When wind and currents pickup sediment and move it away |
| deposition | When sand and sediment are dropped or laid down in a new place (deposited) |
| weather | State of the atmosphere at a certain time and place |
| climate | Pattern of weather in an area over a long period of time |
| Biosphere | All living things (plants and animals) |
| Atmosphere | All of the gases in the air |
| Hydrosphere | All water on Earth including liquid water (rivers, lakes oceans, etc.) as well as water underground and ice (glaciers). |
| Geosphere | All of Earth’s solid, molten or liquid rocks. Also sediment and soil. |
