How old is the universe? About 13.8 billion years old
Galaxy Stars, Gas, Dust, all held together by Gravity
About how many starts does the milky way have? More than 100 billion stars
Elliptical galaxies Round / Oval shaped, Do not create stars
Spiral galaxies curved arms that reach out from the centre, Create stars

AU / Astronomical unit Average distance from the earth to the sun ( about 150km )
Light Year The distance light travels through space in one year
What is a light year? The light-year is NOT a measurement of time; it's the distance that a beam of light travels in one year.
interplanetary distances are the distances between planets measured in (Km and AU)
Interstellar distances are distances between the stars in a galaxy. These distances are measured in light-years.
Intergalactic distance are the distances between galaxies and are also measured in light-years.
Constellation Groups of stars that form a pattern
Comet A ball of rock and ice
asteriod Balls of rocks that orbit the sun
solar system contains the sun, moons, planets
