Motion
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Speed | The distance an object travels per unit of time |
| Velocity | speed in a given direction |
| Acceleration | the rate at which velocity changes |
| Force | push or pull exerted on an object; force = mass * accerlation |
| Friction | impedes motion when two surfaces are in contact |
| Newton's first law of motion | an object at rest or in motion will stay at rest or in motion unless acted upon by an outside force |
| Newton's second law of motion | an object's acceleration depends on its mass and on the net force acting on it |
| Newton's third law of motion | for every action there is an equal but opposite reaction |
| Work | when an object is moved through a distance in the direction of the applied force |
| Power | the rate at which work is odne |
| Simple machine | the most basic device for making work easier |
