Why do the patterns of stars in the sky stay the same although they appear to shift across the sky nightly? The Earth is always rotating on its axis. The is moving, not the stars.
Stars in the sky create patterns called _________? Constellations
Why can different stars be seen in the night sky in different seasons? The Earth's tilt causes the seasons.
How long does it take for the earth to revolve around the sun? One year (365 days).
How long does it take for the earth to rotate once on its axis? One day (24 hours).
What causes daytime? The side of the Earth facing the sun has daylight. The side of the Earth facing away from the sun has night.
The sun appears to move across the sky every day. What is actually happening? The Earth rotates one time every 24 hours. The Earth's movement causes day and night, not the sun's movement.
What causes the phases of the moon? Moon's location in relationship to the sun and Earth cause the phases. "Moonlight" is actually the moon reflecting sunlight.
Approximately how long does it take for the moon to phase from full moon to the next full moon? Approximately one month.
What is a galaxy? A galaxy is a group of stars and the planets that orbit them.
What is our solar system's galaxy called? The Milky Way
Name the planets. Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune.
What is a planet? A planet is a body orbiting a star.
What is a moon? A body orbiting a planet.
What are asteroids? Rocky bodies orbiting the sun.
What are comets? Dirty snowballs. Something in space made up of dust, rock, and ice.
What are meteors? Meteors are meteoroids that enter the Earth's atmosphere.
What are meteoroids? A rocky body traveling through space.
