Erikson's Stages of Development

Infancy (birth to 1 yr) Task: Trust vs. Mistrust Behavior: Hopefullness, trusting vs. Withdrawn, alienated
Toddler (12 months to 3 yrs) Task: Autonomy vs. Shame, doubt Behavior: Self-control vs. Compliance and compulsiveness, uncertainty
Preschooler (3-5 yrs) Task: Initiative vs Guilt Behavior: Realistic goals (explores, tests reality) vs. Strict limits on self-worry
School age (5-12 yrs) Task: Industry vs. Inferiority Behavior: Explores, persistent, competes vs. Incompetent, low self-esteem
Adolescent (12-20 yrs) Task: Identitiy vs. Role diffusion Behavior: Sense of self vs Confusion, indecision
Young adult (20-40 yrs) Task: Intimacy vs Isolation Behavior: Commitment in love/work/play vs. Superficial, impersonal
