| Asexual reproduction | reproduction that does not involve the union of sex cells and in which one parent produces offspring that are genetically identical to the parent |
| Sexual reproduction | reproduction in which the sex cells from two parents unit to produce offspring that share traits from both parents |
| Inheritance | the process by which a characteristic is passed from parent to offspring |
| Offspring | a new organism that results from sexual or asexual reproduction |
| Variation | the occurrence of hereditary or nonhereditary differences between different individuals of a population |
| Cell theory | states that all living things are made up of cells, cells are the basic unit of organisms, each cell in a multicellular organism has a specific job, and cells come from preexisting cells. |
