This is study stacks for the unit 2 science test

QuestionAnswer
Universe Everything in, on and around the Earth
Space Empty part of the Universe that doesn't contain any matter
Galaxy A group of Solar systems, dust, and gas held together by gravity
Solar System A system of objects that orbit a star
Star Giant ball of gas that gives off heat, light, and other radiation in outer space.
Terrestrial Planet Similar size and composition to Earth
Meteorite When meteor lands on Earth's surface
Meteor Also called shooting star. Meteoroid comes into Earth's atmosphere and vaporizes.
Asteroid Small and rocky, orbits the Sun. Smaller than planets, larger than meteoroids. Most are in Asteroid belt. they are irregularly shshaped
Comet Made of ice and dust and orbits the Sun. Most are in oort cloud, and the rest are in Kuiper belt
Meteoroid Smaller pieces broken from Asteroids or comets.
Outer planets Giant planets with thick outer layers of gas, dozens of moons with variety of compositions. Mostly made of Hydrogen, helium, and has encircling rings.
Nebula A large cloud of dust and gas in space where stars are born or explode (Plural of Nebula is Nebulae)
Super Nova When stars the size of the Sun explode
Order of solar system sun, mercury, Venus, earth, mars, asteroid belt, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Kuiper belt
mass of objects increase, force of gravity.... increase
distance between objects increase, force of gravity between them........ decrease
nearest galaxy to milky way andromeda
dwarf planets Pluto, Ceres, makemake
brightest star in the sky ceres
model used for the formation of solar system nebular model
large collection of gas and dust nebula
sun is made up of what percent of our solar system's mass? 99.8%
Meteoroid, star, galaxy, planet, moon asteroid, universe (largest to smallest) Universe, galaxy, star, planet, moon, asteroid, meteoroid
Light year the distance light travels in one year
Spiral galaxy old stars, spiral arms, gas, dust, and many new stars in spiral arms
Elliptical Galaxy old stars, bright centers with little extra gas and dust. Blob of stars, spherical, or more stretched out
Irregular Galaxy Irregular shape, formed sometimes from collision of 2 or more galaxies, mostly gas and dust, lots of new star formation
Stages of life cycle for massive star Nebula -- protostar -- supergiant -- supernova -- neutron star supernova -- black hole

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
