Genetic vocab part 1

QuestionAnswer
DNA A molecule that holds an organism's genetic code and inculdes all the instruction needed to run a cell and create new cells
Gene The basic unit of heredity, each gene codes for a specific protein which determine a particular trait of an organisms.
Allele A version of a gene that decides the different forms of a trait an organism might have
Chromosome a structure made of tighty coiled Dna that makes it easier to transfer when creating new cells
Protein A molecule is part of cells and can have many different jobs. they work like little machines to do specific tasks
Trait the specific way that a feature is shown in an individual organism. Having blue eyes in an example of a trait
Variation The different kinds of traits that exist in an population.
Inheritance The ways thing are passed down from generation to generation, from parent to offspring.
