Commonly used verbs in the nursing skills for the KY state CNA exam.

| perform | to do a task or skill as part of resident care |
| provide | to give or supply something that a resident needs |
| remove | to take something away from a resident or an area |
| leave | to go away from a patient or room |
| raise | to lift something up, such as a bed or a resident’s head |
| explain | to tell information clearly so the resident understands |
| wash | to clean the body or hands using water and soap |
| greet | to say hello or introduce yourself to a resident |
| identify | to check and confirm a resident’s name or identity |
| knock | to tap on a door before entering a resident’s room |
| maintain | to keep something in good condition or continue doing something |
| gather | to collect all needed supplies before starting care |
| clean | to remove dirt or germs from a surface or area |
| don | to put on protective items like gloves or a gown |
| turn | to move a resident’s body to a different position |
| verbalize | to say information out loud clearly |
| use | to operate or handle equipment or supplies |
| cover | to put something over, for example, cover a resident with a sheet or blanket for warmth or privacy |
| tuck | to fold and secure underneath, such as tuck sheets under a mattress or around a resident |
| apply | to put something on a resident, such as lotion or a bandage |
