| What are the 4 quadrants? | LUQ/RUQ/LLQ/RLQ |
| What are hollow organs? | Organs that form tubes, pouches, or cavities designed to transport, store, or break down substances |
| What are solid organs? | Organs with compact structure that have tissue density and rich blood supply |
| Name the hollow organs | Stomach, gallbladder, duodenum, large intestine, small intestine, and bladder |
| Name the solid organs | Spleen, liver, pancreas, and kidneys |
| What is visceral peritoneum? | the innermost layer and is in contact with the abdominal organs |
| What is the parietal peritoneum? | The outer layer in contrast with the abdominal wall |
| What is visceral pain? | Dull and diffuse, delocalized, nonspecific |
| What is parietal pain? | Sharp, localized, and specific |
| What is referred pain? | visceral pain that is not felt in the organ itself, but somewhere else |
| What structures are in the LUQ? | Stomach, spleen, pancreas (majority), liver (minority), left kidney, large intestine |
| What structures are in the RUQ? | Liver (majority), gallbladder, right kidney, large intestine, duodenum |
| What structures are in the LLQ | Appendix, large intestine, small intestine, right ovary, right fallopian tube |
| What structures are in the RLQ? | Small intestine, left fallopian tube, large intestine, left ovary |
| What is the Markle test? | Have patient stand with knees straight, raise to their tiptoes and then drop suddenly down on his heels to make an audible thump |
