| protein molecules | a type of large molecule that performs imporant fuctionins inside an organisms |
| structure | the way something is shaped or contructed |
| gene | an instruction for making a protein molecule |
| fuction | how something works |
| gene version (aka- ALLELE) | a specific form of a gene that provids instructions for making a particular protein molecule. |
| mutaion | a random change to a gene that sometimes results in a new trait. |
| heterozygous | having gene versions that are different |
| homozygous | having gene versions that are the same |
| inherit | to receive genes from a parent |
| sexual reproduction | the process in which two parents pass on their genes to create offspring |
| asexual reproduction | the process in which only one parent passes on its genetic infomation to creates offspring===== CLONING |
| recessive | the trait is inherited only if the offspring inherits 2 copies of the allele for the trait (represented by lowercase letters) |
| dominant | the trait is inherited as long as the offspring receives at least one copy of the allele for that trait (REPRESNTED with capitol letters) |
| chromeosome | a long peicd of DNA that contians many genes |
| DNA (deoxyribo nucleic acid) | a type of molecule that genes and chromesomes are made of. |
