ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES a form of energy that can move through the vacuum of space
GREENHOUSE EFFECT the process by which gases hold heat in the air
THERMAL ENERGY the total kinetic and potential energy of all the particles of an object
CONDUCTION the direct transfer of heat from one substance to another that is touching
CONVECTION the transfer of heat by movement of a fluid
RADIATION the direct transfer of energy by electromagnetic waves
WIND The horizontal movement of air from an area of HIGH to LOW pressure.
SEA BREEZE The flow of cooler air from over an ocean or lake toward land.
LAND BREEZE The flow of air from land to a body of water.
CORIOLIS EFFECT the effect of Earth’s rotation on the direction of winds and currents.
EL NINO is a warm water climate event that occurs every 2-7 years.
EL NINA a local wind blowing from a body of water to land during the day
CURRENT A large stream of moving water that flows through the oceans
JET STREAM Band of high-speed winds about 10 kilometers above Earth’s surface
MATTER Anything that has mass and makes up space
SUBSTANCE A single kind of matter that always has a specific makeup, or composition
PHYSICAL PROPERTY A characteristic of a pure substance that can be observed without changing it into another type of matter
CHEMICAL PROPERTY Characteristics that decribe something´s ability to become something else
ATOM The basic unit of matter from which all matter is made
ElEMENTS Substances that are made up of only one type of atom
