| ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES | a form of energy that can move through the vacuum of space |
| GREENHOUSE EFFECT | the process by which gases hold heat in the air |
| THERMAL ENERGY | the total kinetic and potential energy of all the particles of an object |
| CONDUCTION | the direct transfer of heat from one substance to another that is touching |
| CONVECTION | the transfer of heat by movement of a fluid |
| RADIATION | the direct transfer of energy by electromagnetic waves |
| WIND | The horizontal movement of air from an area of HIGH to LOW pressure. |
| SEA BREEZE | The flow of cooler air from over an ocean or lake toward land. |
| LAND BREEZE | The flow of air from land to a body of water. |
| CORIOLIS EFFECT | the effect of Earth’s rotation on the direction of winds and currents. |
| EL NINO | is a warm water climate event that occurs every 2-7 years. |
| EL NINA | a local wind blowing from a body of water to land during the day |
| CURRENT | A large stream of moving water that flows through the oceans |
| JET STREAM | Band of high-speed winds about 10 kilometers above Earth’s surface |
| MATTER | Anything that has mass and makes up space |
| SUBSTANCE | A single kind of matter that always has a specific makeup, or composition |
| PHYSICAL PROPERTY | A characteristic of a pure substance that can be observed without changing it into another type of matter |
| CHEMICAL PROPERTY | Characteristics that decribe something´s ability to become something else |
| ATOM | The basic unit of matter from which all matter is made |
| ElEMENTS | Substances that are made up of only one type of atom |
