Unit 8 Biomes/Cycles

QuestionAnswer
This biome has tons of rain and has the most diversity of plants and animals. Warm and humid Tropical Rainforest
This biome is very dry and hot. Snakes, rodents, lizards, small shrubs and cacti can be found. Desert
This biome is covered with trees that have cones. Found in Northern areas. Deer, bears, elk, moose, are commonly seen. Coniferous Forest
This. biome has trees that lose their leaves in the fall. Deer, squirrels, rabbits, fox are commonly seen. Deciduous Forest
Tall grasses grow here, shorter trees here and there. Animals such as zebra, giraffes, bison, can be found. This biome is - Grasslands
Found up north. Cold and some of the ground does not thaw out - permafrost. Small trees and wild flowers during summer, but grow fast. Animals - polar bears, caribou, wolves can be found Tundra
This marine biome is where salt water and fresh water meet. Intertidal
This marine biome is where it starts to become deep - you can't touch here, but snorkling is wonderful since there are coral reefs, tropical fish. Neritic zone
This marine biome is the open ocean. Where you would go deep ocean fishing. You would find things like whales and sea turtles. Oceanic
This marine biome is DEEP in the ocean. No sunlight at all, cold, and lots of pressure. Benthic
This fresh water biome is quite shallow. Tons of plants and trees Swamp
This fresh water biome is quite shallow and there are no trees Marsh
This water biome is where fresh water and salt water meet. Tons of seafood, heron, and osprey. We live in one of the world largest! Estuary
Biotic means All of the living organisms in an area - plants, animals, bacteria, fungi, protists
Abiotic means All of the NON living organisms in an area - rocks, mountains, hills, water, weather
Food Chain One flow of energy starting with the sun
Food Web Many food chains showing the flow of energy starting with the sun
Energy pyramid Shows the flow of energy. Producers have the most and energy goes lower each level due to energy being used and heat from that organism.
Primary consumer Eats the producers (plants)
Secondary consuer Eats the primary consumers
Tertiary consumer Eats the secondary consumers
This is the percentage of energy in an energy pyramid that goes from level to level - 10%
The number of ONE type of organism in an area Population
The living or biotic factors in a particular area Community
All of the living and non living factors in a particular area Ecosystem
A large area of ecosystems that share animals, plants, and weather Biome
This cycle shows evaporation, condensation, precipitation - Water Cycle
Plants taking in carbon dioxide, releasing oxygen - animals taking oxygen and releasing carbon dioxide, along with animal waste and emmisions is which cycle - Carbon Cycle
When it lightnings, animals go to the bathroom, plants and animals die, this cycle is fixed by bacteria so plants can grow.
