cartilage a connective tissue that is more flexible than bone and that protects the ends of bones and keeps them from rubbing together.
mammary glands an organ in female mammals that produces milk for the mammal's young.
monotreme a mammal that lays eggs
marsupial a mammal whose young are born at an early stage of development, and which usually continue to develop in a pouch of their mother's body.
placental mammal a mammal that develops inside its mother's body until its body systems can function independently
placenta an organ in most pregnant mammals, including humans, that links the mother and the developing embryo and allows for the passage of materials between them.
5 main groups of vertebrates fishes, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals.
fishes ectotherms, jawless fish- no jams or scales, cartilage skeletons-hagfish and lamprey cartilaginous fish-jaws, scales, and skeleton-sharks, stingrays bony fish-jaws, scales and pocket on each side, gills. goldfish
amphibians ectotherms, early life in water and adult life on land. example: frogs, toads and salamanders
reptiles ectothermic, scaly skin, lungs, lays eggs on land. turtles live in water and breath air. thick skin. example: alligator, snake, chameleon, turtles.
birds endothermic, lay eggs, have feathers, four-chambered heart, have wings with nearly hollow bones. owl, ibis, and rainbow bee-eater.
mammals endothermic, hair and skin cover body, four-chamber heart. Monotreme-lay eggs, platypus. Marsupial- young develop in mom's pouches, kangaroo. Placental mammal-develop in mom's body, connect to mom through placenta, giraffe
