Ecosystem A community of living and nonliving things that interact with each other.
Interact To act on, work together, or affect each other.
Produce A living thing that makes its own food, usually through photosynthesis.
Consumer A living thing that must eat other plants or animals to get energy.
Decomposer A living thing (like fungi or bacteria) that breaks down dead plants and animals into simpler materials.
Biotic The living parts of an ecosystem (plants, animals, fungi, bacteria).
Abiotic The nonliving parts of an ecosystem (water, air, sunlight, soil, temperature).
Dependence When one living thing relies on another living thing or its environment for survival.
Competition When living things try to get the same limited resource, like food, water, or space.
Food Web A network of connected food chains that shows how energy moves through an ecosystem.
