Unit 3 Stack 2
**NEW** 6.7B Balanced and Unbalanced Net Forces
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Balanced forces | Forces acting on an object that cause no change in the motion of the object (i.e., the object will stay at rest or remain in motion at a constant speed) and result in a net force equal to zero newtons. |
| Horizontal | Parallel to the horizon. |
| Net force | The sum of all forces acting on an object; includes both magnitude (in newtons) and direction. |
| Newton | The unit used to measure force; represented by the symbol N. |
| Unbalanced force | A force acting on an object that causes a change in the motion of the object (i.e., the object will speed up, slow down, or change direction) and results in a net force that does not equal zero newtons. |
| Vertical | Perpendicular to the horizon. |
