| nitrogen bases | the rungs, or inside, of the DNA ladder |
| amino acids | proteins are made of these |
| RNA | carries the code for proteins from the nucleus to the ribosomes |
| genes | direct which proteins are made by our cells |
| DNA | Deoxyribonucleic acid. The master copy of an organism's information code; 2 strands with nitrogen bases A and T, C and G |
| A and T, C and G | DNA nitrogen bases that are always paired together |
| chromosomes | the structures in the nucleus which contain the DNA |
| enzymes | these cause the nitrogen bases to break apart when the DNA molecule copies itself |
| phosphate and sugar | what the sides, or "handrails", of a DNA molecule are made of |
| hydrogen bonds | what links A and T, C and G |
| double helix | the name given to the DNA structure by Watson and Crick |
| Dr. Franklin | the scientist who FIRST discovered the shape of the DNA molecule |
| Watson & Crick | the scientists responsible for making the first model of a DNA molecule |
